Welcome to Loomis Lair

We invite you to explore the legends of the "Loomis Gang" and Nine Mile Swamp.  Located near the Village of Waterville in Central Leatherstocking Country of  New York State.  Waterville is known for the notorious family of outlaws, The Loomis Gang, the largest Organized Crime Family in 19th Century America.  Loomis Lair is where the Loomis Homestead once stood, before it was burned by a local vigilante Mob in 1866. Waterville was also known as the Hop Capital of the Country from the mid 1800's to the mid 1900's and is the birth place of George Eastman, who founded the 
Eastman Kodak Company. 

 Recreational activities abound with Canoeing and Fishing in the near-by Sangerfield River in Nine Mile Swamp, Hiking, X-country Skiing, Snowmobiling and Horseback Riding are close-by at the Charles E. Baker State Forest, a continuous unit of State Land that encompasses 9,414 acres.  It is one of the largest solid blocks of NYS public lands outside the Catskills and the Adirondack forest preserves. The Beaver Creek State Forest and the Brookfield Rail Road State Forest also provide good outdoor recreational opportunities.

 Loomis Lair consists of 80 private acres of forest and fields with wonderful views and hiking trails throughout.  Conveniently located near both Route 20 and Route 12 and is less than 10 miles to the Village of Hamilton, home of Colgate University.  Make Loomis Lair your centrally located base of operations for your vacation to Central New York State.
